Steeltoes & Stilettos fundraiser for asbestos awareness

Steeltoes & Stilettos fundraiser for asbestos awareness

TRADIES and models will strut their stuff on the runway this Saturday at Steeltoes and Stilettos.

The building industry's asbestos awareness event will hit the big stage, from 6pm to 9pm, to boost awareness and funding for the prevention of asbestos-related diseases.

Co-ordinated by Paris Fashion Week guru Kai v. Ahlefeld, male and female tradies will stomp the runway, alongside models wearing WA's Jonte Designs, at the Coconut Grove Bar in Northbridge.

Co-hosts building Perthonality Dale Alcock and Jo Morris share a personal connection through asbestos, with their fathers both diagnosed with mesothelioma in February 2010.

Since losing their fathers, Dale and Jo have used their influence and connections to share the message of awareness in the hope of reducing the impact of asbestos for future generations.

Mrs Morris also manages Perth-based asbestos awareness charity Reflections.

“With the highest rates of mesothelioma in the world and significant amounts of in-situ asbestos in our built environment, asbestos has left a devastating legacy in WA,” Mrs Morris said.

“Raising awareness in the construction industry is crucial, and this landmark event will also help spread the message to the wider community.

“Steeltoes & Stilettos is an opportunity for the building industry to come together for an evening of fun and fundraising.”

The Housing Industry Association and Master Builders are on board as ambassadors for the cocktail occasion, with support from sponsors that include ANZ Enviro, The ABN Group, Steelblue Boots, Bunnings and Clipsal by Schneider Electric.
