Stop swampy summer surprises

Stop swampy summer surprises

The weather is already wet and wild this winter. Have you put your swimming pool to bed for the winter yet? There are a few crucial steps that you need to do first to prevent a swampy surprise come summer.

  • Make sure it is as clean as possible - thoroughly clean the bottom and sides and skim the pool to remove any floating debris.
  • Shock your pool (super chlorination), add some quality algaecide and then run the pump to distribute the chemicals evenly throughout.
  • Check pH, chlorine and alkaline levels in the pool and make sure they are at optimum levels to prevent scale build up over winter.
  • Do a thorough clean of all filters, cleaning equipment and any other pool equipment.
  • Cover the pool securely to prevent dirt and debris fouling the water.
  • Run your filter and cleaning systems for a few hours a week.

It is a good idea to lift your pool blanket at least once a month to air out the pool and prevent algae growth. You should also continue to regularly check chemical levels over the winter months.
