Taking a leaf from the indoor plant expert’s book

Taking a leaf from the indoor plant expert’s book

By Sara Fitzpatrick

Anytime is a good time to introduce plants into your environment but spring is particularly ideal as flora comes out of its dormant period and rewards you with a flush of new growth.

Morag and Rosie, from Little Leaf, love Hoyas, Ficus Elastica, Peperomia and Lady Palms at this time of year.

What plants should those starting out choose and why?

Some plants are easier than others and it’s best to begin with something more forgiving while you green up your thumbs.

Devil’s Ivy, Spathiphyllums Zanzibar Gems and Aspidistras are all good options.

These are not too fussed about light levels and will spring back if you miss a water.

What are the best places to put plants indoors?

Like people, all plants have different personalities and preferences, but in general, they prefer a nice bright spot with diffused light, away from the direct line of air conditioners/heaters.

What rooms do you like best for plants?

As far as we’re concerned, greenery is a welcome addition to any room in your home or office.

There is a plant suited to just about any space. Bathrooms are often an ideal environment as the humidity will particularly suit many varieties.

It is also well worth considering adding a plant or two into your bedroom to cleanse the air and aid a good night’s sleep.
