Clever ways to use ‘dead’ space in your home

Clever ways to use ‘dead’ space in your home

Take a look around your house. Chances are there are a few empty corners, some blank walls and some other random spaces around your home that aren’t being used to their full potential. Here’s some clever ways you can make use of these ‘dead’ spaces.

Bay window – if your home has a bay window, chances are that space is being left unused. Add a bench seat, some cushioning and some pillows and you have another instant reading nook for those lazy sunny days. Add some draws underneath and you have room to store books and magazines.

Reading nook – there is almost always an empty space next to or near bookcases. Use that space by adding a comfy chair or beanbag, as well as a reading light, and you instantly have a quiet, relaxing reading spot.

Bookshelves – have an abundance of books and nowhere to store them? Turn those dead space walls into an in-built bookshelf for instant storage space. Image sourced from Morse Constructions http://www.morseconstructions.com/

Blank walls –
liven up dull walls with a simple piece of artwork or even a hanging plant to add a burst of colour to your room.

Bathroom storage – use the space at the end of your bathtub to install shelving for towels, toiletries and decorative items.

Wine storage – sick of looking at that empty space above your fridge? Add a few shelves and you have instant storage space for your wine. Picture http://www.inthecreation.com/

Lamps - Dead-space corners are perfect spots to add stand-alone lamps. The extra light will enhance the overall look of your room.
