3 home maintenance tips for a great Christmas

3 home maintenance tips for a great Christmas

Well folks, Christmas is mere weeks away and as we all know, this time of year flies at superhero speed.

If you’ve got the glorious (or for some, dubious) task of hosting Christmas for the rellies this year, now is the time to kick up the plan of attack!

By now, your Christmas tree is up, your menu is planned and all the great aunts have been invited, right?

Well here are three household maintenance things to also consider when prepping for the big day, to maximise comfort for your guests and keep the Christmas cheer flowing.

1. Tidy up the garden

This is paramount if you are intending to host your guests outdoors. No one likes to be greeted with overgrown weeds, pet toys and wilted plants. Worse still, a sandpit!

If you can scrape by with a quick mow and leaf vacuum then great, otherwise you need to get savvy with your time management and enlist the services of a gardening professional, particularly if you haven’t finished your menu plan yet!

2. Get your air-conditioner serviced

On the flipside, if you are hosting your guests indoors then please, for the love of Christmas trifle, make sure your air-conditioner is in top working order. I’ve spent many a hot Christmas day in my parent’s un air-conditioned house and on those typical Perth 35 degree (or more) days, it’s unbearable.

In the very least, getting an air-conditioning service professional to clean your filters will make a huge difference in the performance of the air-conditioner and this kind of maintenance is relatively inexpensive.

3. Get your pool ready

If you own a pool then you already know that a post Christmas-lunch swim is one of life’s greatest pleasures (ensuring you wait the required time between eating and swimming, of course!).

Pools require constant maintenance to ensure they are clean and safe to swim in.  The hectic nature of the pre-Christmas rush can leave everyone a little time poor, so just like the garden maintenance, hiring a pool care professional to take care of your pool maintenance needs will free up much needed gift wrapping/food shopping/trifle experimentation time.

So the moral of this little Christmas story is that a carefully planned Christmas is a joy to behold, but don't be shy in getting a little help to make it happen.

Happy Christmas planning!
