Computer safety

Before doing any DIY computer repairs, remember to always follow these simple safety tips.

Always always make sure the computer is turned off, even before opening the computer case. In fact it is a good idea to unplug the device from the wall entirely. If you are servicing a laptop or tablet be sure to also remove the battery as well as disconnect the power.

Make sure to always remove anything conductive on your person before doing repairs. In particular remove any hand jewelry or watches.

Do you smell burning or see smoke coming from the case or power supply? Leave the device to cool for at least 5 minutes without touching it. Make sure to replace the faulty component rather than attempt repairs.

If anything is labeled 'No serviceable components inside' or similar, take the warning seriously.

If you're not a computer pro consult an expert rather than irreparably damaging your device. You can find local computer servicing professionals here: COMPUTER SERVICES
