Dryer drama

Dryer drama

It's been a wet winter so far, so if you're someone who does their washing on the weekend you might be in a pickle when it comes to getting it dry! If you have a dryer at hand here are some helpful tips.

If you have a load full of wet jeans or similar, throwing in a large dry towel (or several for a larger load) for 20 minutes is a great way to speed up the drying process. The towel will absorb the excess moisture from your clothes. Make sure though to remove it after 20 minutes to lower the moisture content of the load.

If you forgot about the load of clothes you just ran and they've become wrinkled in the dryer, pop in a clean damp towel (damp, not wet), and turn the dryer on for 15 minutes until the wrinkles are gone.

It's a good idea to turn knits, denims and jumpers inside out before drying them as this helps to prevent fading and the development of bobbles.

If your clothes just aren't drying, check the dryer filter screen for excess lint. If there is a large amount of lint blocking it this can have a huge affect on the air flow and therefore the efficiency of your dryer. Make sure to clean it out after every use. This is also an important safety consideration as a build-up of lint can be a fire risk.

Consider adding wool dryer balls to your load to reduce your drying time, soften clothes and reduce static build-up. Wool dryer balls are simple to make at home.
