Keep your pool safe to use in hot weather

Keep your pool safe to use in hot weather

On days like today all you want to do is get home and hop into the pool, maybe with a cool drink in hand. Finally kicking back in the refreshing water seems like the only way to escape the punishing heat in summer.

But while it’s cooling you down, those hot temperatures are also causing hidden dangers in your pool or spa.

Extra vigilance is required in hot weather to stop your pool becoming a home of water-borne diseases.

When it’s hot you use your pool more often and this increased use means more contaminants such as sweat, oils, sunscreen and other bacteria introduced to the pool from your body. Increasing levels of UV radiation from the sun also destroys your pool’s chlorine, removing its defence against bacteria, and warm temperatures encourage the growth of algae.

It is important to maintain a regular pool maintenance regimen in order to prevent you or your family from getting sick.

  1. Check your pool’s chlorine and pH twice daily in hot spells to make sure they are at safe levels
  2. Run your pool filter continuously while the pool is in use
  3. Keep the area surrounding the pool free of leaves and dirt
  4. Make sure all pool equipment is functioning properly
  5. Clean the pool regularly
  6. For equipment servicing, pool cleaning and professional testing engage a pool technician

Then you can relax and stay cool!
