Save money when watering your garden

Save money when watering your garden

In summer it can be even harder to look after our garden as the sun gets hotter and the weather gets drier.

In an effort to look after our plants and keep them healthy and green,we often burn through a lot of water and the household bills go up accordingly.

With a few simple rules though you can actually halve the amount of water you're using AND keep your plants even happier than they are now.

What's the trick? These four watering tips will help you water efficiently and economically.

1. Use a wetting agent when watering your garden. This can increase water penetration by 30 per cent or more.

2. Fine-mist sprinklers are not economical options because they lose lots of water through evaporation. Try a simple drip irrigation system instead.

3. Make sure to cover your garden beds with coarse mulch. This does double duty by protecting the soil and preventing water loss.

4. Adding fine compost and a wetting agent to your lawn will also make your garden more waterwise.

By watering more effectively you can reduce the amount of water needed for your garden and reduce the bill in your mail.
